Political Advertising In August 2010 – MM Report 9/1/2010

White Plains, NY (September 1, 2010) – Media Monitors, The Leader in Broadcast and Cable Monitoring® released the advertising totals for Political Advertising that took place on the Radio, Broadcast TV and Local Cable outlets Media Monitors tracks.

Media Monitors will be following the major races for United States Senate, State Governorships and the political action committees and organizations buying advertising in this category. See the top twenty in all three media below:

RADIO

The political action group started by Gretchen Hamel that runs a web site called BankruptingAmerica.org and is buying ad time on Radio, TV and Cable under the sponsor ID of Public Notice. They are the leader with 16,567 spots in the month. They spent $669, 203 (Media Monitors’ AdRev®) on radio alone to talk about how our government is over-spending.

Meg Whitman running in the California primary for Governor of that state ran 10,002 ads aiding her quest to the top of the primaries. Her campaign spent $973,475 according to AdRev®. The cavalcade of female candidates continues with Jan Brewer, who was facing a challenge from minor candidates in the Arizona Republican primary, won with 995 radio ads in the month, which only cost her $17,481. And Linda McMahon’s bid for US Senator in Connecticut was bolstered with the 809 spots she ran on radio. McMahon spent $58,320 on radio. TV

On TV, Rick Scott was the top political advertiser in the month of August with 12,628 spots. Rick is running against Alex Sink for Governor in the state of Florida, where Sink ran only 1,616 ads to win his primary. Meg Whitman is #2 with 8,067 spots for the California Governor slot. With one-third of the Senate seats up for grabs this year, you can see the number of Senate hopefuls running ads. Jeff Greene ran 7,744 ads, but lost the primary. Kendrick Meek ran 3,224 ads and won.

In Connecticut, Linda McMahon is spending her own money to the tune of 1,690 TV spots. She won the primary.

CABLE

On TV, Rick Scott was the top political advertiser in the month of August with 12,628 spots. Rick is running against Alex Sink for Governor in the state of Florida, where Sink ran only 1,616 ads to win his primary. Meg Whitman is #2 with 8,067 spots for the California Governor slot.
